One of my newest creations: Self Portrait on Canvas

I've recently started branching into mixed-media art, and hope to start doing mixed media art journaling.

This is a piece that I worked on awhile first by doing a drawing, and I am not much of a drawer.

Second by doing a digital and finally by putting it all together in this canvas I titled " Transformation"

I tried to do a photo transfer on the background of the canvas board after I painted it, well that didn't work to well- so I decided to go with using a printable transparency for ink jet printers and printed off the main photo.

So now how do I make it appear as if it was painted on and not just laid on top.  I took a bone folder while my background paint- I used acrylic paint-was still wet and rubbed over the transparency til it picked up the texture from the background.. that looked pretty cool. Then I added more of the purple paint to the top, coming back with some white and just pouncing it onto the canvas and transparency.

Next I added the butterfly mask using liquid lead for the outline and stickles for the colors. Added some bling to finish it off.

But I still had space to play with so out came the Wild Orchid Craft Roses, in white which I sprayed with Lindy's Stamp Gang,  French Lilac Spray. I also added some smaller Roses as well from Prima.

The ostrich feathers from Consumer crafts seem to be a great edition to the canvas as well so on they went.

Then I said I need a few more butterflies so  I added the three small butterflies I had purchased from Consumer Crafts which were white, that again I hit with French Lilac Spray. The larger butterfly from the Dollar Tree,  already had silver glitter, and bling, but of course I had to hit that with some Lindy's too.

All in all I am happy with how this turned out and loved that I figured out how to make it work after I failed in my first attempt with transferring a printed image to canvas.  Just grab your fave digital software, and a printable Transparency sheet and little paint and some embellishments and see what you can come up with.. if you mess up keep going like I did and you may surprise yourself.
